Trubisky jumps into top 100

UNC quarterback commitment Mitch Trubisky fell two wins shy of winning a state championship.

Mentor (Ohio)'s Mitch Trubisky accounted for 60 touchdowns as a senior.

It might be the only blemish on his senior season, during which the 6-foot-3, 195-pounder from Mentor (Ohio) High School lived up to the hype.

His stellar showing was recognized Wednesday when 247Sports elevated the four-star prospect into the top 100 of its Top247 rankings, vaulting in at No. 87.

Trubisky had been ranked at No. 230 nationally as well as the No. 7 dual-threat quarterback and No. 14 in the state of Ohio. He rose to the No. 3 dual-threat and No. 4 Ohio prospect.

“Trubisky is the biggest mover among signal callers in the 2013 class,” 247Sports national analyst Gerry Hamilton said. “Already being blessed with some of the best feet and agility among the quarterback prospects in the class, he has impressed with added weight and strength as a senior.

"His feet and agility give him the ability to make throws in the pocket or under duress, along with the ability to extend plays and make accurate throws with forced release changes. The North Carolina commitment is among the most improved in the class.”

Trubisky is regarded as the favorite to win the annual Mr. Football award in Ohio, having finished in the top 10 on the state’s career passing yardage list (9,128) to go with 93 passing touchdowns and 1,578 career rushing yards in three seasons.

He posted 4,065 passing yards as a senior, becoming only the 15th quarterback in Ohio history and first from northeast Ohio to clip the mark. He tallied 42 passing touchdowns to go with 918 rushing yards and 18 scores.

Trubisky, who is expected to enroll at UNC next month, had his rating bumped from a 92 to a 94 by 247Sports. He is the highest-rated UNC commitment by 247Sports rankings and comes in at No. 2 on the 247Composite behind four-star defensive tackle pledge Greg Webb.
