UNC on Alex Oriakhi's short list

  • @GoodmanCBS: UConn's Alex Oriakhi told CBSSports that his current list (which may change) is UNC, Kentucky, Missouri, Duke and Xavier.

  • @GoodmanCBS: Alex Oriakhi also told me he is considering N.C. State among that list. So it's UNC, KY, Missouri, Duke, Xavier and NC State

  • UNC def needs him the most due to circumstances,

  • I thought the day after he was released he said dook would be a non-contender because of the lack of post touches?

  • if we don't get Oriaki and J-Mac leaves, we might not top 17 games in the win column. We would have Brice Johnson and Joel James starting and D. Hubert, Jackson Simmons off the bench. What a disaster on the front line, foul trouble and the game is over. Roy better recruit more one and dones or we will be decent for two years and really good for 1 year. IMO!! Go Heels

With that front line..we'd look like Dook throwing up 3's the entire game.

If things work out the way you described, I think you will see Bullock at the four. He is strong enough to defend the post against most current college power forwards and would create a serious mismatch on the other side of the ball. James and Johnson are a lot better than the hype, especially James. Since he lost fifty pounds, he is a much better basketball player. He will be a pleasant surprise next year, especially if he gets to play behind AO. I was really impressed with him in the recent all star game that aired on Sunday night on ESPNU. Moved well without the ball to get easy looks (making good cuts to basket) and created a huge base and big target to feed the post. He couldn't be defended without being fouled. While Hubert will be challenged offensively, he is a good defender and rebounder. That is a solid skill set for the role we would need him to play if we spread the floor with a more perimeter based offense, which is what we would need to do, a la dook like BP suggests.

My biggest concern would be development. With no seasoned of offensively skilled guys to practice against, I think we would have stagnate development in the front court that could overwhelm our team early in the season and have a hangover effect. We would definitely need Rasheed and some other alums to hang around to get the guys ready.

  • I hope UNC gets Alex but I truly do not think them young guys will perform as bad as some think. Sometimes being pushed into a tuff situation brings out the best in players. Rebounds and Defense are key. However these two freshmen are strong and should add some offense too. As far as foul trouble goes two of the better teams in the country last year did it with a four guard line up. (Cincinatti, Missouri) With the hops of Tokota It would not scare me for him to put in a lil time at PF. I think it could be one of the most exciting years on the court in the Dean Dome. My opinion and hopefully Im right!

  • I agree with all comments. Its just if Bullock plays the four we will get smoked, there is no way Roy plays him there!! The big plus is the defense. I think it could be the best in the land, speed, speed and more speed. That's how they have to win. Unfortunately, The Wildcats will get the top 2 or 3 guys left on the recruiting board and every year be a contender. I think if Roy wants to win one again he has to quit recruiting guys like Desmond Hubert and Jackson Simmons. Look after the 2005 National Championship and 2009 Championship, we were not very good. This year was supposed to be a National Championship run, until Marshall got hurt and look at the team we will have next year!!! Just saying, Roy is awesome, I love him, but he needs to do a better job of recruiting for the future. Go Heels

  • I think Hubert will be really good by the time he is a Jr-Sr and Simmons is a walk-on. We will be able to win with the recruits we get. We had a shot this year were it not for injuries. A lot of people seem to be jumping off the bridge over Cal. He might be in the NBA next year. Even if he doesnt go to the NBA, this year was probably a fluke. If not for the lockout Jones probably would have been in the NBA this year and Kentucky would have had a much tougher time winning without him.

  • Oriakhi Will Visit UNC, Duke, Kentucky, Missouri
April 4, 2012 at 12:23 am by Kevin Duffy

UConn forward Alex Oriakhi, perhaps the most sought-after transfer in the country, will “definitely visit” North Carolina, Duke, Kentucky and Missouri, his father told Hearst Connecticut Media Group Tuesday.

  • I read where Xavier,Missouri and Kentucky have already met with Alex! There was a rumor UNC and Duke was out but Alex squashed that rumor. Them 3 schools offered major playing time to him and went to his home and visited. Washington is out. Alex said Why go that far? Have not heard anything about State but they may become a player if Leslie declares for NBA. I do not know for sure but Roy may not have promised huge minutes. Roy will go by who is getting it done in practice and Brice and Joel and Desmond are not gonna just roll over and I would not want them to. Xavier is his truly best shot at the guaranteed minutes but I doubt he wants to go to a mid major no matter how successful they prove to be year in and year out. Could be why they are being left off the visitation list. This is part my opinion and part Facts I have read. Hope youll can tell the difference of on from another. lol
