NFL Combine thread

  • On the field combine workouts begin today in Indianapolis and this is the thread to post all the pertinent UNC info......

    Bruce Feldman ‏ @BFeldmanCBS
People who think UNCs Zach Brown is just a very fast "little" OLB will be surprised to see him weigh in at 244 at Combine.

    Officially measured at 6-1, 244-pounds.

  • Full coverage is on NFL network and for those who don't have it in your cable package, because the NFL practically prints their own money and has a great online platform you can watch all the action from a couple different cameras here:

    Schedule is:
    Saturday: OL, TE - 9am - 4ish
    Sunday: QB, WR, RB - 9a - 5ish
    Monday: DL, LB - 9a - 5ish
    Tuesday: DB - 9a - 1ish

    Explanation of NFL.com grades:

96-100 Future Hall of Famer Top Pick A once-in-a-generation type prospect who could change how his position is played
85-95 Immediate Starter 1st An impact player with the ability/intangibles to become a Pro Bowl player. Expect to start immediately except in a unique situation (i.e. behind a veteran starter).
70-84 Eventual Starter 2nd-3rd A quality player who will contribute to the team early on and is expected to develop into a starter. A reliable player who brings value to the position.
50-69 Draftable Player 4th-7th A prospect with the ability to make team as a backup/role player. Needs to be a special teams contributor at applicable positions. Players in the high range of this category might have long-term potential.
20-49 Free Agent UDFA A player with solid measurables, intangibles, college achievements, or a developing skill that warrants an opportunity in an NFL camp. In the right situation, he could earn a place on a 53-man roster, but most likely will be a practice squad player or a camp body.

so do I salesguy, but in the long run it might be the best thing for both sides.

  • Was told when he was recruited he was staying 3 years max at UNC regardless. Turns out whomever told me that knew what they were talking about because he couldn't leave fast enough even with an ACL tear.

And I agree LJ, it's best for both sides for him to just move on.

The last thing you want with a new regime are malcontents and players with bad attitudes especially when you're counting on those guys to be your standouts and/or team leaders.

  • DJ ran a 4.46 (unofficially). At 6-3, 230...that's a really good time. If he can show a good vertical...I think someone will jump on him sooner than later as a redzone target.

  • 14 reps of 225 on the bench for Jones

    JLeggette@247sports.com http://twitter.com/JLeg247 youtube.com/CarolinaBlueDotCom

    Jon Leggette

  • I think DJ goes 2nd round late to a good team and will become a starter within a couple years. Will be a great situational receiver from the word go. Would love to see him replace Manningham as the rumor is he is leaving for Tampa, or with the Patriots as they desperately need playmakers at the wideout and Brady would much rather have a very good route runner who is going to be where he is spose to and who can make plays after the catch than an inconsistant speedster. Regardless even if I am wrong he will be better in the NFL than projected.

  • Sounds like Jones hasn't changed much since high school......

Dwight Jones - WR - Player

According to NFL Network's Mike Mayock, position coaches at the Combine "jumped all over" North Carolina WR Dwight Jones in on-field drills for disobeying instructions and a lack of hustle.

Jones apparently ran a bad route at one point in drills and didn't hustle to the other area of the field, where the quarterback placed his pass. Russ Lande of Sporting News also noted that Jones had similar problems at the Senior Bowl, specifically in terms of effort. Though long on potential at 6-foot-3, 230 pounds with 34-inch arms and mid-4.5s speed, Jones has now been flagged as a character risk in an incredibly deep receiver class.

Wow...that could really hurt his draft stock! And it amazes how some players just never get "it"...even when there are millions of dollars on the line. With his size and god-given ability...he could be great...but that won't happen unless he gets his head straight. Hopefully he gets it together over the next couple of days.
