McAdoo Staying or Going?

  • Tom said in another thread he wants to see McAdoo step-up. Considering how he's played this season will he, and should he, stay or go? Curious to get everyone's input?

    Great thread Charleston!

I personally think he's gone. He's averaged nearly 15 points and 8 rebounds per game.

I just don't see him improving on those numbers much by staying another season.

However, I don't expect him to be a lottery pick. I expect him to go around 15-20.

Sad, but I see him going too even though I don't think he's ready. He's such a tweener, and the NBA is a specialized league unless you're a freak a la LeBron. His jumper is weak-ish, he can't post-up, avg rebounder, and doesn't yet know how to capitalize on his quickness like a Jamison... I like the kid but I think he needs more time. That said, if he does go, I obviously wish him all the best!

  • I think he declares for the draft.

He can probably only hurt his draft stock with another year in college. It is an incredibly weak class and he can still get over drafted on a scout's dirtiest word - potential.

  • I think he's gone although he could use another year in college to work on his game...especially his low-post game. He doesn't have the outside touch or handle to be a 3 in the NBA and he lacks the post prescene to be a 4. I think another year of developing his inside game would do him well...but with the NBA riches within his grasp...it will be hard to say no again.

  • Tom, as usual, you are spot on. He will not be back. He has an opportunity to go to the big show, why risk injury after such a solid season. Keep up the good work Tom! Nice to have you on this site.

  • I think he leaves, but I don't think he is ready whatsoever!!! He shoots way to many off balance shots and is far to inconsistant. Another year under his belt would help major! I totally totally disagree with the injury excuse. You could get hurt in pre-draft workouts, practice or anywhere for that matter. To me selfishness of young athletes wanting money now because they might get hurt, is what's making the NBA unwatchable. I can't watch 5 minutes of the NBA anymore. Jordan said it perfect, " We had to earn what we made. Athletes are given millions of dollars and never played a game in the NBA". That's when the NBA was good. I know I seem old school, just can't stand seeing players go for the money and not based on whether your ready or not. Marcus Lattimore gets hurt and insurance policies are taken out for millions. Its a rare day that because you play one more year you will get hurt. I just can't buy that argument. But like I always say opinions are what makes the sports world so fascinating. GO HEELS. PJ get well in 7 hours :)

  • I think Mac leaves. He will be a lottery pick for 2 reasons.

    1. This is a VERY weak draft
    2. His upside is incredibly high, even if he is not an all star right now, he has athleticism through the roof.

  • He will translate to the 3. He doesn't have the handle or the shot to play there yet. Scouts have told him that. Will he still go? Possibly, but we shall see.

  • Hopefully he listens to the scouts. He's a tweener right in terms of his skill set. He doesn't have the handle and shooting ability to be a NBA 3 nor the inside game to be an NBA 4. I think he could use another year to really develop his game. The biggest risk besides injury...he doesn't improve and continues to see his draft stock slide.
