Lewis Narrows Focus

Could Tyquan Lewis be getting close to making a decision? His first step was narrowing his list of schools to a Top 5.

  • Do you get a sense that Vandy and Ole Miss are really options here...or just fillers for the top 5? Seems that we've been hearing his top 3 by far were UNC, LSU and OSU.

    Blueepedemic

  • UNC is in a dogfight with good competition but he is dang well worth it! Him and Nazair are my favorite defensive Homegrowns left and I know the staff really wants him! His ability to take on 3 different positions plus his upside and fit into Fedoras Defense makes him special IMO.Hope the staff can finish strong with him! Definite Target and almost a have to in order to continue making strides in NC this Year. Getm Heels! flex

  • Mom is definitely pushing for UNC hard, but that might actually be working against us.

He can become rebellious later in life right now I hope he listens to Mom. She sounds pretty smart! Great talent!

Depends on what position he truely wants to play. If he wants to play DE, he won't want to come to OSU after last year's hall.

I think LSU is the frontrunner considering he hasn't even visited yet.

    reservemickey

  • I have said this before. I doubt he goes too far from home. IMO, the distance to LSU and OSU from Tarboro, NC will be too much when the family considerations come into play and final decision is really made. I could be wrong, but I doubt it.

Vandy maybe more of a player than we think with Clemson filling up. We know Mom emphasizes education and Vandy maybe the middle ground in making Mom happy, distance, and playing in the SEC with more local options (Clemson/SCar)unavailable.

All the Clemson and South Carolina fans were saying the same thing about 4* DT Michael Hill from Pendleton, SC and he just committed to the Buckeyes!!

Urban adds a whole new national element to Ohio State recruiting.

We told him he'd play an OLB/DE hybrid position called the Viper and he sounded very excited about that after camping at Ohio State.

  • I don't think he has a commitable from OSU right now

It is difficult to follow your logic there.

First, how can you make an inference about Tyquan Lewis based on Michael Hill? Do you know both well enough to know each individual's circumstances well enough to know that they are substantially similar?

Second, hasn't OSU been a national brand that has recruited nationally for a long time? That was my impression at least. Pryor was not from the midwest. Neither is Curtis Grant. I can go on, but I won't. How does Urban Meyer really improve your national recruiting? Sure, he has more connections to the state of Florida and strategically hired from staffs in the south. However, those connections will quickly fade, at least in case of Everett Withers. OSU is going to pull a few, but most of the recruits will continue to be from the midwest because your weather sucks. Nothing you can do about it. No amount of tradition is going to overcome the fact that it is still Ohio. In 2011, 6. In 2012, 5. Currently, you have 3 from the south. What am I missing? Your school is a national brand that will attract a few kids every year. I doubt Meyer moves the needle that much, especially with Big Blue and MSU's programs improving and offering you some real intra-conference competition which you haven't had in the past three or four years.

It's very similar to the situation with MIchael Hill because all of the Clemson and South Carolina fans were saying exactly what you said in your first post about "the distance from home and family" being too much of a deterrent etc. Hill was on record saying distance doesn't matter and Lewis has said the same thing.

Yes, Ohio State has always recruited nationally, but not to the extent Urban Meyer can bring. You are also correct about Everett Withers bringing a lot of ammo to the Carolinas for us as well.

You obviously don't know much about Lewis or how Withers is viewed by many in the Carolinas.

  • Well as many recruits as Big Blue plucked from Ohio this year You have to have a national flavor. Withers strength will fade In NC and he will end up moving on somewhere else. Floridas top kids are not going far. an occasional 4 or 5* will go to the North like to ND, but half of them end up transfering back to Florida it seems. The SEC get some out of there but Florida Florida State and Miami bring plenty back in to make up the difference. I do not care if Tyquan is willing to play in Minnesota. I think UNC has every bit as good of shot at him as anyone left on the list. Playing time, the style of play and being part of the beginning of something gives UNC as much to offer as anyone. GO HEELS!

  • His offer after the Buckeyes camp went to commitable. He surprised alot af gurus here in Columbus. I'm pullin for him. He is the Viper Prototype.

That is mean! It should be noted that OSU, under Meyer, only offered two of the eight guys that went up North.

OSU has always recruited the Big 10 footprint with Florida but now VA, NC, SC, GA, and TN are being recruited as they never were before.

Tyquan Lewis will be Jamal Marcus part II

Still, Big Blue poaching OHIO? That would make me sick if It was me. The pasture is not always greener on the otherside when u forget your own high schoolers and they come back and start beating you cause your international coach did not think they was good enough. As far as Tyquan being the second coming of anyone? Nah He will be Tyquan Lewis!!! BLUE HEAVEN !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11rockon peace BTW that Viper position you think so highly of came to pass because a Linebacker from UNC named LT changed the game. Have no idea who Jamal Marcus is though.

    snuca

  • Jamal Marcus out of Durham Hillside. Same school as Francis and Wiggins. Marcus was invited to the Opening last year and got some one on one instruction from Ndamukong Su. Jon can correct me if I am wrong, but was never really recruited that hard by the old staff because he lacked ideal size. Had an offer, but not heavily recruited.
