Is Erik Highsmith the most important player for UNC?

  • I say: No.

  • No, They have what i believe are 3 future NFL tight ends that are athletic and can catch anything thrown. That in itself is enough to take the pressure off Highsmith and will actually help him out. Gio or Romar are the most important in my eyes as they will be the one to open the offense up 4 everyone else with there legs or catching the ball out of the backfield. Of course the Line is very important and are strong this year! Defensively I believe the two Hybrid positions are most important as the coaches change schemes, they must make plays!

Agreed. I think Gio or the A-back (whomever starts) are the most important offensive positons. Both positions will keep the defense on their toes with this new offense as they'll be threats to run or catch the ball...both from the backfield and the slot.

But I also think the bandit position will be of great importance. While not our defenses best player...this position has got to put pressure on the opposing offense to help the LB's and DB's. We've all seen for years what lack of pressure does for our defense (i.e. prevent defense of year past).

  • Renner to me is the obvious choice. Our offense this season will only go as far as he can take it. Not sure Highsmith is top 5. Not trying to downplay his importance as I believe him and a few other receivers will be crucial, but someone has to read the defense and throw the ball.

Well in her write up she said other than the QB who is always the most important. Agreed, and I think UNC has a star at any pace!

  • QBs are not eligible for purposes of this series. A more descriptive title for the series would be the Most Important Player That Isn't a QB.

I commend him for going outside of the box, but I think he missed the mark a bit. Still, Fortuna is way better than HD. At least Fortuna knows football.

  • I guess I should have read the article. In that case I think Gio is most important.
