In-State: 5 To Watch

Desmond Lawrence’s commitment gave the Tar Heels six in-state pledges in the 2013 class. Are there 5 more N.C. prospects who could also choose UNC?

  • Care to guess how many of those 5 we land?(Hoping to go 5-5)

  • Not sure how many we land in the end...but as of now...we are in the thick of it with each of those guys and have a fighters chance!

Love what Fedora and staff have done...especially with the in-state kids.

  • We hafta beat Georgia for North, Alston is hard to read but i believe we end up in the final two.Mitch we have a great shot at. Tyquan I believe will be a Heel and hopefully bring Neal along. The longer it goes the more urgent it becomes for both UNC and the young men with some of the guys being sought after for a position in which they are only taking one. Will be interesting! Great slideshow Jon. very informative. thumbsup

  • Haven't heard anything regarding Alston. What's the latest, any idea when he plans to decide? I keep seeing us mentioned with UNC so obviously he's interested. What position do you see him projecting at in college and what did UNC offer him as? Thanks!

Alston has been invited to basically every recruiting event the coaches have held since they offered him shortly after NSD in early February. However, the problem is that he doesn't have a reliable ride to take him to visits although he's intended to revist Chapel Hill several times after taking in the UNC-Duke basketball game.

Alston grew up a UNC fan and the Tar Heels are IMO still the odds on favorite for him and likely his silent leader. The staff sees him as an 'athlete' who could project to either wide receiver, safety, Ram or potentially even grow into an outside linebacker.

    Johnathan Alston junior highlights

Johnathan Alston from Bunn (N.C.) is one of the better kept secrets in the Southeast but that should all change soon. The 6-3, 200-pounder is a versatile athlete and could project to either offense or defense at the next level. He was recently ranked as a 4-star on 247Sports: 247sports.com/Player/Johnathan-Alston-18438

Appreciate it. Why the ND love? I know former ND player Neal played at same HS is that the only connection? I project him as LB/S from what I've seen.

There's a connection with Neal being a former player at Bunn but Notre Dame has been a decent player in North Carolina over the past few years and will continue to be.

The Irish recruit nationally and with North Carolina's solid public school system, most kids are pretty well qualified to make it through Notre Dame's academic requirements from N.C.

They've offered several in the 2013 class such as Keeon Johnson and Des Lawrence etc.

Didn't know NC had one of the better school systems, but it makes sense. We've had a lot of success in NC the last few years. Believe we offered Lemay as well. What's going on with his recruitment? The Johnson offer I'm not a fan of, but sure you know a lot more than I do about the kid. What's your thoughts on his strengths and weakness? How's his recruitment shaping up and has UNC offered?

LeMay is likely headed out of state.

I've been a fan of Keeon Johnson for a while. He's a 6-3, 190 with legit 4.5+ speed. IMO he has one of the highest upsides of any WR in N.C. and that's saying something with this class. He's a bit raw right now but I think he has a chance to be special. He's had a UNC offer through 3 coaching staffs now and if he doesn't got to UNC then I think Notre Dame might get him if they'll take him. Virginia might be a possibility as well.

What don't you like about him?
