UNC coach Larry Fedora's name has surfaced in a pair of SEC coaching searches.
I'm hoping Fedora falls in love with Chapel Hill and becomes the Dean of UNC football. It's all in his corner. Mack Brown proved UNC can be as viable as any football school with appropriate commitment. I hope Bubba makes sure that he feels the financial love. For better or worse that's a big piece.
Pay him! We can't afford to lose such a promising coach.
The Atlantic Coast Conference: A Tradition of Excellence... Then, Now and Always
Technically he was eligible for his division championship and bowl eligibility bonuses but he said if his team doesn't get any reward he wouldn't either. Should we redo his contract to compensate him that way? Maybe but who's to say he'd accept that either...
Well if we're joining the SEC, at least Fed won't bolt to join the conference.
I guess Larry fedora is leaving us after one season based on what Tennessee is reporting. It's a done deal.
Where you getting that info??
Go to find your team and pick Tennessee. That's all they are talking about. Fedora to gruden to butch Davis
No way man. Haven't heard a thing like that. Speculation is one thing, but you can't be coming on here talking about done deals with no proof! Give us all a heart attack.
No no I'm nervous to. It's on Tennessee football recruiting page. I'm a fedora fan.
Yeah they're all talk IMO.
Just posted this on the UT board:
From a well meaning UNC fan. Why on earth would Fedora want to leave Carolina for UT? He can recruit the same calibre (if not better) talent in Chapel Hill. Has a more favorable schedule. Has better academics to sell. Will make equal money. He also has the chance to become the face of a program that could be a powerhouse for years. UNC is a sleeping giant, but we've never had a coach stick around to take us there. Most of that's our fault b/c we've never wanted to pay up... But we've finally got an AD who'll do the dirty work. Just a thought. I liked Dooley, was sad to see him go.
Fedora is a great coach. He is gonna take us to the next level. I just want these other schools to stay away.
He's not even in their article of 9 potential candidates. He's here for the long haul. I'm sure they got that rumor from the fools on the on the state boards...
Just passing along a recent tweet this evening from Wes Rucker, our tuned-in Tennessee reporter:
"FWIW: I still don't think people are paying enough attention to UNC's Larry Fedora in Vols' coaching search. And that would be a great hire."
I take it as more informed conjecture than substantive reporting, mind you, but I don't think it's a situation that can totally be ignored.
It would be dumb for Fedora to go to Tennessee in my mind. He talked about the kids playing the "What if" game in his maryland post-game Q&A, I think he would be playing the "What if" game if he left this program now. He leaves for a program like Tennessee he becomes just another coach in the Vols record book. Here he could build a dynasty somewhat from scratch similar to what Bill Snyder did at K-State. We have the money, we have the facilities, and believe me regardless of what sports reporters say, this fan-base is hungry for a legitimate nationally ranked football program.
