You are going to love NC and UNC.
Kenan Stadium is beautiful. It is unique in that it is in the middle of campus. It is both a blessing and a curse. UNC is one of the most beautiful campuses in the country. I have west coast family with a cousin that is a junior at UCLA doing an internship in DC and another cousin that just graduated from USC. The UCLA cousin came down for Easter and we showed her around Chapel Hill because she is interested in law school. Asked her how UNC stacked up to UCLA and USC (her sister is the Trojan alum) and she said UNC was prettier than both with USC in second. Kenan is really picturesque. Unfortunately, there isn't sufficient room to tailgate and that hurts the gameday experience. We have a new AD that is more football centric. I hear he is brainstorming ways to improve tailgate so I expect some positive change and better use of available areas.
The best place to tailgate that is general admission, first-come first-serve parking is Granville Towers parking lot. It is on Franklin St (the Main Street in chapel hill) so it is close to restaurant food if you don't want to grill. It is a pretty walk through campus (Polk Place and Tar Heel town) to the stadium. Parking is $20 so not too bad. Definitely better than the $100 parking for USC games. Plus, it is easier to get out after the game from Granville than the parking decks around the hospital. It is probably the best tailgating.
Pregame, there a couple of things. The first is the Old Well Walk. The Old Well is iconic in Chapel Hill and for UNC. The urban legend is you guarantee all As if you drink from the old well on the first day of classes. On gameday, the team walks from the old well to the stadium. Fans lineup from the old well through Tar Heel town and down to the stadium to greet the players as they walk the quarter of a mile (not sure how far it is?). The second is the amphitheater. Beside Kenan, there is an outdoor amphitheater with live music and food trucks on gameday. The bands that play are family friendly. Also, the UNC marching band makes its way by there on their way into the stadium, usually stopping to play a few songs on their way in. Be nice awesome if they set up a few beer gardens but that is wishful thinking at this point.
As far as seats, it is hot in the south at the end of August, early September. Really HOT. Kenan is set up so that one side is in the sun and it can be really tough. My seats are on the north side, aka the sun side. If you are on the north side, make sure to use suntan lotion. On the south side, you get shade if it is after 3 pm, which is nice in September but cold in November. It is a bit of a trade off but the south side is definitely preferable.
There are no bad seats in Kenan as far as a view of the field. Unfortunately, it is bleacher seating throughout the stadium except for in the blue zone (new $50M addition with luxury seating) and in the blue seats (old luxury seats in the endzone opposite the blue zone). There is a back on the bleachers which limits the leg room. I am 6'2" and it is really tight for me. I have seats in section 112 in the blue seats. Very comfortable. If you are tall, I would try to stay out of the bleachers if you can help it.
The band sets up in sections 115 and 116. This is in the endzone above the tunnel where the players come out. Since you like the band, get there early. The band had a pretty neat entrance onto the field last season.
I maybe moving and maybe selling my season tickets. PM me if you are interested. My seats are close to band if that matters.

Welcome to the board and NC!
Thanks so much. I have been you tubing.. Can we take a bus to UNC? I heard it was free? We take the metro to the SC games, parking sucks. Back in 2007 against Nebraska, we got stuck in the lot and it took over 21/2 hours just to get out. I have been going to Sc games for 43 years, first game was 1970 against the Irish.
The heat won't be a problem, we lived in Houston for 2 years!I will keep in touch. I can't wait to get there. I won't miss the traffic here in So Cal. Jusy my Trojans. Wife said I can go back and catch a couple of games a year.
Downtown Burbank? Johnny Carson said that all the time.
Welcome to the board I lived in Texas my whole life have famliy from North Carolina never bought in to a Texas college team love me heels!
Pretty close haha about 3 min from Warner Bros studios.
Welcome! Will be a great time for you and your Daughter to get in to Cheering for the Heels. Exciting Football with the Fed Spread!
I can't really speak to the buses. I know they are available. Never taken them so I don't know the details. I believe they are free and you can catch them from the mall or the Friday Center. Like I said, not really sure.
Carolina football is on the up and up. Franklin Street is a lot of fun, and the campus is beautiful. The Dean Dome is HUGE, and Kenan is (as someone said before) picturesque. Great time to be a Heel!
The best part is the Campus as a whole. Its a lovely place to just go for a stroll. Welcome to the board btw and don't forget to visit the Carolina bball Hall of Fame!
Can't wait. Want to see BIG GAME JAMES jersey! As the great Chick Hearn used to say SLAMMM DUNK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! God he was great.
