Came across this quote on ESPN when a B1G fan asked about expansion. Thought it was pretty good. Written by a B1G fan:
"People belong with their own kind. And most Carolinians aren't transplanted New Yorkers and Ohioans working for GlaxoSmithKline. They are hot-weather-barbecued Southerners who grew up in the pines. They love their area's unique basketball heritage, they talk like Andy Griffith and see the world in different ways than we do. Many of them are wonderful people. My kid goes to camp in northwest North Carolina every year and I've met many of the locals. But they do not belong in the Big Ten. And they will feel like the foreigners they will be if this expansion happens."
Here's hoping we shut-up the "our-staters" tonight and do Andy Griffith proud. I think PJ feels like he's been challenged and will go off on Leslie. Just have that feeling in my bones!
Born and raised in NC but unfortunately live in B1G country right now and I can say, after living here, that I want nothing to do with the B1G! UNC is much better off sticking to its roots which are in the south. Midwesterners are nice people but a different breed. And I do not think I could deal with Michigan and OSU fans on an annual basis in basketball and football. They're a combination of Dook and state fans...which is never a good combo.
I've been fighting for ya'll on the national blue board. the mich., ohio st., and penn. st. posters have been killing me. i stated that i hope the acc survives but if it doesn't there would be no way carolina would ever go to the big ten. we would love to have you guys in the sec. i believe all of the southern schools ought to stick together. i hope that the acc is saved but as a southern fan i would not want to have anything to do with the big ten. if something ever happened to the sec i would not want to go to the frozen tundra and play a bunch of schools that look down their noises at us. i'm not talking school wise, i'm talking about our southern culture and even the way we talk. if you have time, go check out the blue board to see more of what i'm talking about. i have nothing but respect for the acc and i feel like your schools are as great as any of the aau schools in the big ten. i wish my tarheel friends nothing but luck as you go through this challenge.
Thanks Bart many Heels thoughts in yours!
Backing up Bart... Big Blue Nation would love to have UNC in the SEC. Every school in the SEC experiences positive growth and influence from those who were not born and raised in the South, but roots are important. I hope most Carolinians see how much the rest of the southern state flagship schools would like a tighter bond with you all. Even our most heated rivals pull for each other when up against someone from outside the SEC in everything from football to academic grants. Rooting against the BIG is way too fun for you guys to miss out on it.
