Keith Gilmore: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=7Ykbl9guz5o
DEATH OF A TURKEY
Is it official? My first impression is UNC is right back in the thick of things with Hand. This man carries his self well!
Saw this on twitter a bit ago......

Sources tell me Illinois defensive line coach Keith Gilmore will be named defensive line coach at North Carolina. http://bit.ly/xpkQEX
How does this effect the recruiting immediately? Do we sign new guys commited to Gilmore or what? Or are we set in stone with prospects we are looking at! I'm just waiting for a surprise or optimistically hoping for one :)!!!
Gilmore might not be at Deke's level recruiting-wise. But let's see what direction they go with the next hire. Do they add another young guy or a proven vet assistant who is more coach than recruiter. The sum of the hires is important, because they weren't going to bring in 1 person to compensate for the Deke loss recruiting-wise.
Gilmore is an outstanding teacher of DL. He has coached 11 first rounders in his day.
The other hire is supposedly going to Ron West. UNC's vetting process takes a bit of time and he's also committed to his current school until after NSD.
His track record alone, will help him get players. Here is a wonderful write up on ESPN this morning:
"Illinois is losing one of the Big Ten's top assistants in defensive-line coach Keith Gilmore.
Rivals.com and others reported Saturday that Gilmore is leaving Illinois to join North Carolina's staff in the same capacity. He'll be reunited with North Carolina defensive coordinator Vic Koenning, with whom he worked at Illinois from 2009-2011. Gilmore was the only assistant Illini head coach Tim Beckman had retained from the previous staff -- and for good reason.
He mentored two NFL first-round draft picks in defensive tackle Corey Liuget and defensive end Whitney Mercilus. Two of his linemen, tackle Akeem Spence and end Michael Buchanan, are expected to be drafted in April. Although Illinois certainly has had its issues the past two seasons, defensive line hasn't been one of them. Gilmore is a significant loss for Beckman's staff.
It's hard to blame Gilmore for leaving as Beckman faces potentially a make-or-break season in 2013. Things are much more stable at UNC, and Gilmore's familiarity with Koenning makes him a good fit in Chapel Hill. "
Great stuff! Thanks for bring it to the board!
Paul - Does Gilmore have any connections with DTs that may help us close this recruiting class?
I know Gilmore was the primary recruiter for the DT from Michigan that committed to NCSU.
