I just got an interesting call from someone close to the Razorbacks who told me the drum beat is getting louder in Arkansas for former UNC head coach Butch Davis to return to his home state and take over an SEC program obviously in disarray.
While there has been no move at the top to fire John L. Smith a move could come at almost any time over the next couple weeks.
Davis is currently in a non-coaching position with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
No guarantee that this will happen but it certainly would be interesting as everything looks right on paper.......

Well Butch was never officially proven to have done anything wrong... So technically I guess he's clean. But I think it makes Arkansas seem desperate (which they are) to win in spite of potential bad PR. Only an SEC team would risk perceived institutional integrity to hire a winner.
Arkansas is certainly under a microscope because of what happened with Petrino and then the subsequent head-scratcher of a move to bring in John L. Smith on a 10-month contract. As much good-will as their A.D. might have he can't mess up this next hire.
And again, the incredibly powerful 'powers that be' at Arkansas like the Tyson chicken man (Butch's 'best friend') can spend untold fortunes to make a move like this happen.
Wouldn't be a great move by Arkansas...but not a bad move either. To be uber successful in the SEC...I think they need someone with name recognition. There are guys currently coaching who could provide that (i.e. Charlie Strong)...but Butch is a familiar name for Arkansas faithful and would help ease the fanbase.
no way Hog President takes Butch
Would certainly bring A LOT of scrutiny to a program that would rather stay out of the limelight for the time being.
Why Davis' upcoming release of his 216 area-code cell phone records will hold sway over where he might stand as a legit candidate in the head coaching search at Arkansas.......

I think arkansas would be a great fit for him. Great sec school with awesome fans. Ive heard that strong might be the next to coach there though?
I heard that Texas A&M wanted Strong BAD during the process in November/December because of his SEC experience at Florida. He keeps winning at Louisville and he'll almost be able to name his next Top 10-15 head coaching gig either at the end of this season or in the future.
