Wonder how this will affect their stellar recruiting class
For the sake of conference respectability, I HOPE THEY MAKE AN EXCELLENT HIRE.
This will only push us to be better and make us better league at the end of the day.
Who doesn't enjoy a little competition?
NC State coach Tom O'Brien has been fired after a disappointing 7-5 season, the school announced Sunday. O'Brien will not coach in the upcoming bowl

Sooo about Johnathan Alston...
Damn...I was hoping he'd stay. I enjoy watching State be mediocre. :)
Ship has sailed most likely. We're THE choice for North right now.
Debbie Yow picked the wrong year to change coaches. 4 SEC jobs are opening...
I just retweeted this post from popular college football satirist "Kegsneggs:"
"With today's firings, James Franklin is currently Googling "Scrooge McDuck Vault for home."
Franklin is more on-the-radar than Gottfried, but I think he could bring the same thing to State -- instant recruiting success.
That said, I doubt State would be more attractive to him than, say, Auburn. Tennessee's gonna let pride get in the way and not go after him, and Kentucky won't attract him. Arkansas, TBD.
I think the situation looks way too favorable with MarQuez North to take Alston.
Alston can be a serviceable WR and would add depth for UNC, but he's not a difference-maker at that position. Gimme Bug Howard over him.
Howard, North and Davis all 6"4 or taller. That would be next to impossible to stop...... LOVE IT. The awesome thing about not having a bowl game or postseason is the staff can be in these kids kitchen's and living rooms almost at will. Come on Fedora real in M. North and Crowder and our recruiting year will be amazing. Its already good, GO HEELS!
I just don't see how State can afford Franklin. Not happening, imo.
I'll take North all day... If JA's not a linebacker I don't know how impressive he'll be. IF he did want to play linebacker we could use the help! But if we can get North and Crowder I'll be a happy, happy man. C'mon Marquez, pull that trigger!
Other name I would initially keep an eye on is Clemson offensive coordinator Chad Morris.
But if I'm Morris, I ride out the Tajh Boyd/Sammy Watkins era next season and then take a more attractive position.
TOB squeezed more out of less. But he's the one who compiled the less. And the cupboard is bare relative to the talent at other ACC programs, especially on offense. Junk QBs behind Glennon, fringe D1 WRs and OL projects.

Have to think that there are a lot of factors working against State:
1) The roster is not in the best shape, so the coach will be inheriting a project.
2) Will need patience to build out and the firing of TOB doesn't exactly scream reasonable.
3) Debbie Yow has a reputation of being challenging to work for. See number 2 for an aggravating enhancement.
4) Fan base . . . . See TOB's NC State resume in the historical context of the program's success.
Can't imagine too many marquee coordinators or non-BCS level head coaches that are poised for a BCS level HC gig will jump at this if they can afford to be patient.
