Carolina to SEC

  • This post is just a spin off of the B1G thread but I for one would love to see Carolina and State go to the SEC if it comes down to it. I know some won't agree but our basketball is going to be way up there until were all long gone and then some but I think our football program would take a MAJOR step forward...some of these kids were losing out on (North and Lawson come to recent memory) are committing to SEC programs simply because they have that logo on their jersey. Carolina vs. Tennessee, Florida, Alabama, South Carolina, LSU, etc...that just excites me, I know theres a high likelyhood that it never happens, just my two cents.

  • SEC takes dook before state

  • The BBN and SEC would certainly welcome you. Other post is right... I'm hearing Duke before NC State if the SEC has to take one along to get UNC to join. Va. Tech is next most important target behind UNC.

  • I am an ACC fan and do not wish for the leaugue to split up but I believe it would be better for the State if UNC and state were in different leauges, It would creat even a stronger dislike as they are in no way associated

Agreed. Having conference pride at stake, as well, only enhances the rivalry. It gets entire regions interested in the games with true rooting interests.

  • Please come to the SEC, would love to have you

Admittedly, I would prefer you & VaTech together. You guys are bigger than Duke, we want big athletic programs that have an ability to flourish in everything, not just one trick ponies.... UNC/Kentucky would be absolutely unbelievable.

  • Unc to Sec is a no brainer for football and the world and athletics evolve around football the money is in football! Carolina basket all will be fine without the ACC! This move would make the university of North Carolina a complete athletic school potential power house and finally would be able to put a fence around Carolina as they would have the sec label! Recruiting would improve 10 fold!

Virginia Tech brings nothing. They are in a free fall and once Beamer retires, it's going to get worse.

We bring dook and you could have a UNC, dook, UF, and UK Saturday at the SEC basketball tourney... Tell me people aren't watching that.

I don't really agree with this.

Virginia has enough football talent to grow a program, as does NC, I'd like to bring both of those recruiting territories into the league's footprint. That's what most of the SEC is about, schools growing programs with homegrown talent. VaTech also has a good football fan base & commitment to continue to grow. Like NC they are also a good, & new, market for the league.

I do agree Beamer's on his way out but are only a good coaching hire away from continuing progress.

Duke brings nothing long term for football. Carolina would bring it all.

Although I'm not against Duke if that ended up being Slive's pick I'm just saying ultimately I'd prefer UNC/VaTech over UNC/Duke, personally, but obviously I trust Slive at the end of the day.

  • I hear what you're saying about Virginia Tech, but the problem is that UVA is passing them for the premier program in the state and UNC is starting to become more of an option than Tech. VT isn't really a desirable job like it once was. Dook will be another Vandy with better basketball so it's kind of a "meh" situation there

  • I agree on UVa, it's VaTech or UVa for me but I've pretty much conceded UVa to the Big 10, that's why I didn't bring them up, assuming there's any movement obviously

I'd like UNC/UVa or UNC/VaTech, really don't want Duke or NCState if I had my drothers. jmo.

Honesty, I don't care who comes with us other than state as long as we are SEC bound. Unfortunately, the state legislature will unlikely allow us to leave alone

It's exactly why Slive has to let the Big 12 work for him.

    1. Let the Big 10 go first then 2. Have the Big 12 offer FSU/Clemson/Miami/Louisville, with a promise to take 2 more from the east (NCSU & one other)

Then you have a free for all situation, politics won't get in the way of that. Slive can then offer UNC & Duke or VaTech. Big 12 can then take 2 more.

  • UNC would be the crown jewel for the SEC .... make no mistake about it.

That is the school it really wants, and has always wanted. It's opens up an entire state, and takes the SEC into Virginia. UNC has a national brand. Heck, it has a global brand.
