UNC 3rd in ACC preseason poll

Defending regular season champion North Carolina grabbed third place in the 2012-13 preseason Atlantic Coast Conference poll, the ACC announced on Wednesday. The assembled media at ACC Operation Basketball, the conference's annual preseason media day, picked NC State to finish first and Duke to finish second.

G Dexter Strickland is still limping coming off ACL surgery, Roy Williams said Wednesday.

The Wolfpack earned 26 first-place votes on the 53 ballots and 601 overall points in the voting. Duke got 21 first-place votes and 589 points. UNC finished with 520 points. Fourth-place Florida State got the final six first-place votes and finished with 484 points overall.

The rest of the preseason poll was No. 5 Miami (436 points), No. 6 Maryland (341), No. 7 Virginia (287), No. 8 Clemson (277), No. 9 Georgia Tech (189), No. 10 Virginia Tech (169), No. 11 Wake Forest (151) and No. 12 Boston College (90).

UNC sophomore forward James Michael McAdoo grabbed a spot on the preseason All-ACC team, picking up 41 votes. NC State's C.J. Leslie and Florida State's Michael Snaer were the top vote-getters with 50. NC State's Lorenzo Brown (40) and Duke's Mason Plumlee (39) rounded out the all-conference squad.

Leslie was named the Preseason ACC Player of the Year and Wolfpack freshman Rodney Purvis is the Preseason ACC Rookie of the Year.
