North Carolina (22-4, 9-2 ACC) will try to win its 10th ACC game of the season when it hosts Clemson (13-12, 5-6 ACC) on Saturday afternoon at 4 p.m. in the Smith Center.

On Wednesday night, Carolina won its fourth consecutive ACC road game with a win at Miami. UNC has won at Virginia Tech, Wake Forest, Maryland and Miami since losing at Florida State on Jan. 14.

Carolina has won 13 of the last 14 meetings in the series with Clemson and has never lost to Clemson in Chapel Hill (55-0).

The Tar Heels enter this weekend’s action with a 9-2 ACC record, tied for first place in the conference with Duke and Florida State. Clemson is tied with Maryland for seventh in the league at 5-6 in ACC play.

ESPN will televise the game, with Mike Patrick (play-by-play) and Len Elmore (analyst) calling the action.

Carolina is ranked No. 8 in the Associated Press poll and No. 7 in the ESPN/USA Today coaches poll this week. Clemson is unranked.

The Tar Heels have gone 25-5 in their last 30 ACC games, closing 2009-10 by winning two of three conference contests, going 14-2 in 2010-11 and starting this season 9-2.

UPCOMING: After Saturday’s game, Carolina will play back-to-back road games, visiting NC State on Tuesday and Virginia next Saturday afternoon.

CAROLINA NEARING 10 ACC WINS

Carolina enters the Clemson game with a 9-2 record in Atlantic Coast Conference play in 2011-12.

One more ACC victory would give UNC its 36th 10-win ACC season and its seventh in the last eight years under head coach Roy Williams.

No other ACC school has as many 10-win ACC seasons as Carolina. Duke is second with 29.

THE SERIES VS. THE TIGERS

The Tar Heels lead the all-time series with Clemson, 125-20.

The Tar Heels have beaten the Tigers 13 times in the last 14 meetings and 37 times in the last 44 meetings (since the 1990-91 season).

Roy Williams is 13-2 vs. Clemson as the Carolina head coach, including a 4-2 mark in Clemson, a 6-0 mark in Chapel Hill and a 3-0 record in ACC Tournament games.

Carolina has never lost at home to Clemson, leading the series 55-0 in games played in Chapel Hill.

That is the longest streak of home wins over an opponent in NCAA history.

Carolina has beaten the Tigers by double figures in 23 of the last 25 meetings in Chapel Hill (the exceptions were in 1997-98 and 2002-03).

Clemson has played in Chapel Hill 55 times since 1926 with 14 coaches, losing three times at the Tin Can, 15 times at Woollen Gymnasium, 14 times at Carmichael Auditorium and 23 times at the Smith Center.

UNC is 84-4 vs. Clemson in games played in the state of North Carolina. Included in that figure is a 55-0 mark in Chapel Hill, an 11-1 mark in ACC Tournament games in Raleigh, Greensboro and Charlotte and a 1-1 record in Southern Conference Tournament games in Raleigh prior to the formation of the ACC. Also included is a 13-2 UNC edge in games in Charlotte for the North-South Doubleheader in the 1960s and 1970s and a 4-0 Carolina advantage in other regular season games played in Greensboro or Charlotte.

Clemson has beaten the Tar Heels in the state of North Carolina on the following dates: March 1, 1939 (Southern Conference Tournament in Raleigh), Feb. 14, 1964 (North-South Doubleheader in Charlotte in double overtime), Feb. 18, 1967 (North-South Doubleheader in Charlotte) and March 8, 1996 (ACC Tournament quarterfinals in Greensboro).
