An erroneous tweet led to a brief mix-up on a potential new offer for Nazair Jones. What’s the latest on where the 4-star DE stands with North Carolina?
“I just got off the phone with (area recruiter) Randy Jordan, and I asked him if I had gotten an offer [Wednesday] tonight and he said no,” the Roanoke Rapids standout explained.
“(Jordan) asked where I heard it from and I told him it was this guy who tweeted at me…I don’t have an offer from (North) Carolina.”
But did the running backs coach go into detail about when it might come?
“He didn’t say much about when I’ll get it except that when the time did come that I would be the first to know and that I would find out from them.”
A UNC blog site erroneously tweeted at the Top247 member about a new offer from North Carolina. However, when Jones followed up on the tip he found out that the Tar Heel offer hasn’t come…yet.
“Twitter is more than I’ve bargained for I can tell you that,” Jones laughed. “Coach Jordan was telling me how he hates technology. He apologized for the experience. But it’s whatever…I’ll get the offer but just not today I guess."
All of this in addition to losing a couple cell phones in the past week alone.
"Things just aren’t going my way this week," he lamented. "But it's all good as long as I have my health and can walk and do everything I want to do. Losing a cell phone is nothing."
With several visits to UNC already under his belt, Jones will again make the trip to Chapel Hill in just a few days.
“I’m going to Chapel Hill on Friday,” he said. “I’m going up for a doctor’s visit and I’ll probably stop by and see the coaches. I’ll see where I stand. I also want my mom to meet coach (Larry) Fedora. My mom has met him before briefly but I want them to be able to sit down and talk in-depth.”
The 6-5, 250-pounder is still recovering from an injury that forced him to miss all of his junior basketball season.
“Things are going pretty good,” he explained. “I have setbacks every once and a while but it’s nothing that I can’t get through. It’s nothing huge anyway. I’m just going to see my doctor on Friday to see if I can get cleared to play. I haven’t officially been cleared to play yet."
Jones is currently participating in light spring football workouts with his Roanoke Rapids squad.
“Right now we’re just going over the plays, catching passes and doing little 7-on-7 stuff.”
Jones explained that a coach from Duke is planning to come by and see him on Thursday.
“I might take a visit to Duke sometime also but I’m not really sure.”
